Let me show you why I cannot let this go

When a home floods, childhood floods too.

Sleep. School. Safety. Memory. Dignity.

As a Filipina, I have watched the flood images return year after year. A disaster does not only damage walls. It interrupts everything a family needs to stand again. The numbers matter because the human cost is repeated, home after home.

I know we cannot stop every storm.

But I believe we can decide what our communities are ready for.

So I began imagining another possibility

What if home became a climate-ready living system?

I imagine a flood-adapted, climate-resilient Philippine pilot community where safer shelter, clean water, food, energy, aquaculture, livelihood and learning strengthen one another.

I am not presenting a finished answer. I am asking whether we can create a place to listen, test, measure, learn and share what works with other communities.

What does Bayanihan mean here?

When people gather around one shared hope, something wonderful happens: a house that could not move begins to move.

For me, the house is our shared future. Nobody has to do everything. Each of us brings something different, and we get to see what becomes possible together.

I believe climate-ready communities are worth exploring and building with care. I will add my name so this idea does not have to begin alone.

Is this really about floating houses?

No. Floating or amphibious shelter may be worth studying in some locations, but BGM2030 is about a whole climate-ready living system. Elevation, drainage, repairable construction or relocation may be more appropriate elsewhere. The site and community must determine the response.

Who gets to design the pilot?

The people who may live with it must be co-authors, alongside qualified engineers, scientists, builders, local leaders and knowledge holders. A beautiful idea imposed on a community is not Bayanihan.

Public support does not replace expertise or funding. It helps demonstrate that people want this work pursued, creates a network of possible skills and introductions, and gives BGM2030 a stronger case when approaching responsible partners.

Why I started this

I am a Filipina with a question much larger than my audience, my resources or my reach.

I am not a big organisation. I do not have a giant team behind me. What I have is a week I spent living on the ocean, memories of floods, an encounter with whales, and a question I could no longer ignore.
